The OB-1600 UtilityAir is a 6-inch deep alternating-pressure mattress designed to help prevent bedsores and protect fragile skin for individuals who spend long periods in bed. It uses a single layer of air cells that gently inflate and deflate in cycles to redistribute pressure, reduce strain on sensitive areas, and improve comfort. The mattress also features 7-inch-high side bolsters that act as soft protective barriers to help reduce the risk of rolling out of bed. Its intuitive control panel makes it easy for caregivers to adjust air pressure, change operating modes, and monitor alerts, ensuring safe and effective care throughout the day and night.
15° Self-lateral Rotation
The OB-1600 provides a gentle 15-degree self-lateral rotation through specialized air cells that inflate and deflate in a smooth, wave-like pattern. This continuous motion shifts the patient’s weight from side to side to help relieve pressure points, improve sleep, stimulate circulation, and reduce the risk of developing bedsores. It is especially beneficial for patients who cannot comfortably turn themselves.
Patient-Centered Safety Design
This mattress includes a sinking design that lowers the surface by up to four inches to help keep the patient safely centered. Combined with a patented 4-inch guardrail, it creates an eight-inch deep soft barrier that helps prevent falls and increases stability during alternating-pressure therapy and self-lateral rotation. This feature maintains safety even during movement—up to 40-degree shifts—while still allowing caregivers easy access for repositioning, hygiene care, and other support.
Comfort-Focused True Low Air Loss (LAL) Therapy
Positioned beneath the top cover, the Comfort-Focused Low Air Loss system circulates 15 liters of air per minute using a built-in airflow fan. This airflow helps remove moisture and regulate heat and humidity around the patient’s skin, keeping the surface cool, dry, and comfortable. Maintaining this healthy microclimate is especially important for individuals of all ages who have Stage 1 through Stage 4 pressure ulcers or are at increased risk for skin breakdown. This system supports both comfort and improved skin protection.
Fowler & Seating
The OB-1600 includes a Fowler and seating function that provides additional support in the torso and seat areas when the head of the bed is elevated. This helps prevent the patient from sliding or “bottoming out,” reduces pressure in seated positions, and decreases the risk of pressure-related injuries. It ensures the patient remains properly supported and comfortable when sitting upright for activities such as eating, reading, or visiting with family.
